Ada Adele Pallister was the eleventh child of Thomas Pallister & Isabella Nasbitt, born December 29th, 1874 at Lanchester, Co Durham.
Ada’s mother died in 1880 & in 1891 Ada was living with her father Thomas, a butcher, & his third wife Annie at Front St, Lanchester.
Ada married Edward Ridley in Jan-March 1901 at Tynemouth, Northumberland. Edward was born c1874 at Try Em All, Lanchester, the son of Mary & Joseph Ridley, a farmer.
Soon after their marriage Ada & Edward were living at Carr Grange, Brinkley, Northumberland in 1901 where Edward was a farmer. With them was Ada’s sister Mary Pallister.
In 1911 Ada & Edward were living at 10 Ravensworth Crescent, Kells Lane, Low Fell, Gateshead, Co Durham & Edward was now described as a dairy farmer. They had 3 children by this time – Constance Mary (8), Amy Isabella (7) & Thomas Pallister (7 months). Living with them was Edward’s brother John Ridley, also a dairy farmer, & Ada’s twin sisters, Mary & Frances Pallister. Frances was described as a costumier.
Daughter Constance married John T Owens in 1933 in Stockton. The 1939 register shows them living at 10 Junction Rd, Stockton, where John was an anhydrite mine undermanager in the heavy chemical industry.
Son Thomas married Gwendolyn Bond in Oct-December 1936 in Stockton. The 1939 register shows them living at White House Farm, Blakestone Lane, Norton-on-Tees where he was a dairy farmer.
Edward died on May 4th, 1938 at Glen Afton, Junction Rd, Norton-on-Tees, Co Durham. Probate was granted on July 26th, 1939 to widow Ada Adele & his effects were £822.
The 1939 register shows widowed Ada living at 13 Jameson St, Stockton & with her was sister Mary Pallister & John Ridley, a retired farmer. Daughter Amy was living at 45 Mandale Rd, Thornaby-on-Tees in 1939 & was a commercial teacher of day & evening classes.
Ada died, aged 80, in July-September 1954 in Stockton & her memorial is at St Mary the Virgin, Norton.
